Linkin Park (Can also be shortened by LP) is an alternative rock / Nu Metallband from Agoura Hills, California. The band consists of Mike Shinoda, Chester Bennington, Rob Bourdon, Joseph Hahn, Brad Delson and David "Phoenix" Farrell. Linkin Park's progress began in 2000 when they released their debut album Hybrid Theory, which with 24 million copies worldwide is the biggest selling debut album in this century. Meteora came in 2003 and then Minutes to Midnight in 2007.

History

Linkin Park called "Xero" when they began in 1996, the year that Mike Shinoda and Brad Delson had finished school. Shinoda, Joseph Hahn met in California. He was a member of the band. In the meantime, Delson studied at UCLA and he shared the apartment with bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell. Farrell later in Xero.

Xero was not so popular. They were rejected by several record companies who felt that something was missing. Mark Wakefield was ejected from the band. They began to search for new lead singer and Jeff Blue had heard rumors of a young and promising singer. The rumors, however, from one of Farrel comrades. The name of the lead singer Chester Bennington was. Bennington got a package in the mail. It contained two Xero demos, one with Mark Wakefield on vocals, and the other with only instruments. Bennington began to write parts of songs based on his own interpretation, and went to a local recording studio to add the vowels in the melodies. He showed up three days later with the finished product, and the tape was sent back to the Blue. Two days later he was in Hollywood auditioned for the vacant vocalist position, and was elected to the band.

After Bennington joined, the band changed its name to Hybrid Theory (which was also the name of Linkin Park's debut album). They started to produce music for the first time as a united band, and later gave the Hybrid Theory EP, which contained six songs.

Hybrid Theory attempted to gain entry with a label, but no one was interested. Blue had left Zomba in favor of Warner Bros.. Records in 2000. The band changed its name and became Linkin Park. The reason was that Hybrid Theory was sued by the English techno-band Hybrid, and that many of the band members often passed the amusement park, "Lincoln Park" in California, and the pronunciation of the word "Lincoln" is reminiscent of the pronunciation of the word "Linkin". They found later, Warner Bros.. Records and got a contract with them.
