Tags: mask (2 pics)
In picture: The death mask of the oldegyptiske pharaoh Tutankhamun, who ruled from 1334 to 1325 BC The king is portrayed wearing a ceremonial equipment Nemes, Uraeus, vultures and løsskjegg.
TutankhamonTutankhamun, who originally named Tut-ankh-Aten, common name in his lifetime Neb Kheperu Re was the pharaoh of Egypt during the period (approximately) 1334 to 1325 BC Tutankhamun ascended the throne as a 9-year old, so the real power lay in the hands of the minister Ay and head of the army, Horemheb. Tutankhamun was probably the son of Pharaoh Akhenaten Amenofis IV. That was why the Egyptians tried to erase all traces of Tutankhamen. Amenofis fallen from grace, after he had excommunicated the other gods and closed their temples. He had a religious conviction which was not accepted, and officials destroyed all the writings that mention him or his successors.
Tutankhamun married his half-sister Ankhesenamon. It was expected that the pharaoh had children, so the throne remained in the family. There was a risk since she was half-sister. They had no children who survived, but was found two corpses in his grave, which may be their stillborn daughters.
He restored the worship of Amon and the other gods. As a token of this he changed his name from Tutankhaten of Tutankhamen.
Tutankhamen died suddenly at the age of only 19 years, in the eleventh year of his reign. It was Ay who should decide where King Tutankhamun was buried. He was quite famous in the Valley of the Kings, and had already begun to prepare their own graveyard. It was important for the pharaohs to get a place where they could rest in peace, and where no one noticed them. Tutankhamun was buried in a tomb, he really should not be buried because he died so early. It is believed he was buried in the tomb of Ay in haste. He was buried next to Ramses 6
Ay took the throne after Tutankhamen, he married Ankhesenamon, as was his grandson, to strengthen the throne. He was an old man then and only ruled for 4 years.
Based on the much battered mummy, "states the researchers, however, that King Tutankhamun in the fatal moment was about. 1.70 meters high and that he had a slender bone structure. It is difficult to determine causes of death in secure mummies over 3000 years old. The cause of death is believed anyway after the last CT examinations may be that the young king incurred an infection after a complicated fracture of the knee. But the skull's have significant damage, which could indicate an accident, or that he was beaten in the head from behind.
Some believe that Ay murdered Tut-Ankh-Amon, to get the throne himself.
Grave FoundHis grave was found in the Valley of the Kings by Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon on 4 November 1922, and 26 November they went into the tomb as the first of over 3 000 years.
"We had been working for months and found nothing. We had almost realized the battle was lost and prepared to leave the valley, and then, when we barely had seen in the Pickaxe earth in the most recent attempt, we made a discovery which exceeded even our wildest dreams ".
"At first I could not see anything... but eventually, when my eyes got used to the dim light began details of the room in slowly to prominent from the mist, strange animal statues in gold, everywhere shining the gold". Howard Carter
It is with a certain probability assumed that Carter, Carnarvon and the young Lady Carnarvon visited the burial chamber before the official, scientific proceedings, but probably without being able to interfere with much, since the burial chamber was filled almost to the breaking point by the king's burial casket 19, the one outside the other. And in there again, a sarcophagus.
Inside the sarcophagus were the king protected by a further three anthropomorphic coffins, that is, in human form - the two outer layer of wood inlaid with gold and precious stones, the innermost of solid gold. His body bore a portrettlik gold mask and was wrapped in linen, impregnated with resin and embalming fluids, which in part had done great damage to the body.
