Biography for Liz McClarnon

Elizabeth "Liz" Margaret McClarnon (born 10 Apr. 1981 (38 years ago) in Liverpool) is an English pop singer and member of the band Atomic Kitten. She is now also a celebrity cook and presenter.

Career

Atomic Kitten

Her music teacher in secondary school arranged for her to take part in an audition with Andy McCluskey, who wanted to set up a girl band. In 1997 (22 years ago), McClarnon became one of the original members of Atomic Kitten (11 walls) - she went on to co-write many of the group's songs. She is the only original member remaining in Atomic Kitten (11 walls) following the departure of the two other original members; Heidi Range was replaced by Natasha Hamilton in 1998 (21 years ago), and Kerry Katona was replaced by Jenny Frost (17 walls) in 2001 (18 years ago). Atomic Kitten (11 walls) have sold over 8 million albums and singles around the world.

Solo career

After Atomic Kitten (11 walls) took a break, McClarnon was signed to All Around the World records.

McClarnon released her first solo single, a cover of Barbra Streisand's 1980 (39 years ago) hit Woman in Love, on 13 Feb. 2006 (13 years ago). The track was produced by Graham Stack and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, who also wrote the original version and whom she accompanied on his 2005 (14 years ago) tour.

A video was released to promote the song featuring McClarnon in a Manhattan apartment, but it was actually filmed in McClarnon's home town of Liverpool. It was decided to release the single as a double A-side with Jackie Wilson's I Get the Sweetest Feeling. The single peaked at number 5 in the UK Singles Chart and after more than half a year in release it peaked at #16 in the Spanish charts on 22 Oct. 2006 (13 years ago). Also prior to her solo release she appeared in the video for Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? with the FHM Hot 100, which charted at #10 in the UK.

Since her first release, McClarnon has gone onto release one more single called 'Don't It Make You Happy' as part as a bid to go to the Eurovision song contest. Although failing to win the ticket, she released the single as a download and it reached number 15 on the download chart.

Lately

Since then Liz has been recording her debut album and keeping it under close wraps. McClarnon parted ways with her old management company in Apr. 2008 (11 years ago), and is now managed by her ex-marketing manager Scott Richardson at Belta CM. 2009 (10 years ago) has been confirmed the year she will release her debut album. Lil recently told DigitalSpy that she's been influenced by The Saturdays for her album, and that it will sound like the Kittens as she wanted to stick with a pop sound.

Before that, she recorded a single titled Lately with friend Jaime Jay for the Global One Music project. The same song has been recorded by different artists all around the world into different languages, and in addition to English, Liz also recorded the French and Spanish versions. The single was due to be released May 18, but for legal reasons this was postponed the day before release until further notice. Before that point Liz and Jaime had been promoting the single, with appearances on a number of radio and TV shows.

Cooking appearances

On 25 Jul. 2008 (11 years ago), McClarnon was named 'Celebrity Masterchef Champion'. Since then she has gone onto hold a regular position on Market Kitchen on UKTV Food, commenting on recent cookery books. She also appeared on four episodes of LK Today teaching a new and simple recipe on each episode as well as being interviewed on the show.

Liz also created a pasta dish for Pizza Hut which came out in January, as well as confirming she is completing a cooking book.

Presenter

In Aug. 2003 (16 years ago) McClarnon presented a programme the BBC about pensioners being forced out of their homes. On 29 Oct. 2008 (11 years ago) Liz debuted as a presenter on the National Lottery. Liz was also at the 2009 (10 years ago) Brit Award nominations event, at hand to update viewers.

Liz has revealed that she has two shows in pre-production that she will be presenting later this year.

Novelist

In 2008 (11 years ago) it was confirmed that Liz has been writing a book about being in a girl band. Publishers have expressed interest but deals are yet to be confirmed. This is due for release Christmas 2009 (10 years ago).

Other work

In 2005 (14 years ago), she appeared in the ITV reality TV show, Celebrity Love Island, coming second and performed some modelling assignments. She supports Everton F.C. and has modelled the club's kit in the past. McClarnon is an ambassador for the charity Youth Music.

On 17 Mar. 2007 (12 years ago) McClarnon competed for the chance of becoming the UK's Eurovision entry in the fourth edition of Making Your Mind Up. She competed against Big Brovaz, Brian Harvey (East 17), Hawkins & Brown, Cyndi Almouzni and Scooch with the self-penned song Happy. McClarnon did not make it into the top two and was eliminated after the first round of voting.

On 12 Feb. 2009 (10 years ago), it was revealed that Liz was taking part on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, where she was participating on Ant's team for the whole of the series.

Personal life

Liz lives in London but still visits her Mum and Brother in Liverpool regularly. She still remains good friends with Atomic Kitten (11 walls) members Natasha Hamilton and Jenny Frost (17 walls) and they get together from time to time for big one off gigs overseas. She has dated Bristol City centre forward Lee Trundle, Blue lead singer Lee Ryan and Westlife singer Kian Egan. She is also a big Everton FC fan like the rest of her family and attended the FA Cup final in 2009 (10 years ago) which Everton lost 2-1 to Chelsea FC
